At the beginning of the 2000s, many production surfboards mirrored the narrow, highly rockered equipment of professional surfers. Rusty answered with the Piranha: a wider, flatter and more approachable design that generated speed without demanding perfect waves.
More than two decades later, Rusty shapers Hoy Runnels and Rick Hamon returned to the strongest ideas behind that model. They widened and refined the outline, updated the foam distribution and tuned the bottom contours for modern tri-fin or quad setups.
The result is the Illuminati. It carries speed across weak sections and feels comfortable in everyday conditions, yet retains enough control and curve for solid overhead surf. It is not a simple reissue; it is a proven concept reconsidered with current shaping knowledge and construction.
For surfers who want easy acceleration without giving up real performance, the Illuminati occupies the useful space between an alternative board and a conventional shortboard.
